Treating patients with a congenital heart defect (CHD) is often a team effort. We use a co-management model that allows our team to address the specialized CHD while the referring physician, such as a cardiologist, primary healthcare provider or other specialist, continues to follow our patients’ other medical issues. Typically, this allows our team to address the specialized congenital heart disease while working with the patient’s referring physician or primary healthcare providers to address other medical issues.

Does Cincinnati Children’s care for adults?

How do I manage my patient’s CHD during her pregnancy?
Show

Pregnancy is safe for many CHD patients, but does require close and careful monitoring. We work closely with referring obstetricians as well as with MFMs at TriHealth and UC Health to provide ACHD care and surveillance during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. We can also help evaluate pregnancy risk of ACHD patients before they get pregnant as well as ensure the needs of the unborn baby are met.

My patient has a Fontan circulation; are there special concerns?
